There's just no need. (Rant)

There is no need for people (in laws) to send cards of congratulations for a getting pregnant. It's just not a thing you do (or is it?). Getting pregnant is the easy bit...congrats on having sex is even weirder from your in laws. Send a card when the scary scans are done or the baby arrives. And to mention my weight or 'might be pink' will not help matters. I'm so glad they live miles away and Royal Mail delivered these messages otherwise they would have got a thump.

It is a bit weird but people must do it otherwise these cards would have disappeared from the shops? I think I even bought one for a dear friend when she finally managed to conceive

I think it's sometimes difficult for in laws to convey emotions. Mil has bought me something and said thank you after each of my boys were born. It's something I would have expected from DH (and he did buy and say thank you) but not from MIL and I felt a little awkward.

We got one of those cards from my parents because we'd been trying for 7 years and were celebrating just getting to the conception stage. But in more "normal" circumstances I think I'd find it a bit odd.

My inlaws got us a card when Sproglet was born which said "Congratulations on the birth of our grandchild" which I really hated. To me it felt like they were trying to make it all about them, at a time when it should be all about Sproglet.

You know my "It may be a girl" saga... and I think you may have borrowed my MIL by mistake ;)
