Another would-be weaner is here!

Postby qbm » 07 Feb 2014, 16:20

And only 3 days after her due date! *** was born last night just before 8pm weighing 7.5lbs (E was 8lbs 12 :o so wasn't expecting a smaller one. Not complaining though)!

All went well in the end though it was a bit mad getting to hospital. I phoned very early yesterday as my contractions were strong and close together to be told that yes, the birth centre had plenty of room. Call back in an hour as they would have progressed. Phoned back an hour later to be told they were full and diverting to another hospital - one which couldn't offer water births. I could have cried! My contractions had eased off anyway so I was hopeful when they picked up my first choice would be open again... They didn't. They eased some more and we cancelled plans for friends to get E from nursery and take her to theirs for the night. I got into the bath at 4 and by the time I got out my contractions were between 2 and 4 minutes so I called the hospital again and spoke to the same person I had before. Both hospitals were now closed and they were diverting to one really far away!!! But... she had secretly reserved me a room at the birth centre that morning! How amazing and kind and above and beyond was that? I love that woman. :D

Of course by the time we left we hit the Edinburgh bypass at rush hour - bang on 5 o'clock. It was horrendous. My contractions were so painful and frequent and I was actually worried I'd have to give birth at the side of the bypass :o Anyway, we made it and our friends came to the birth centre to get E. Less than 2 hours later I'd had Morven in the pool, still in her caul. :bsmile Oh and last time I had a water birth, I didn't poo. This time... I pooed and pooed and pooed and pooed some more. It was inhuman! :D  :D

Morven latched on immediately and has been feeding like a trooper. She is also ridiculously calm - the opposite of E when she was born! I might actually cope with two after all :D

Brilliant news! Gorgeous name, and so glad you got your pool. Born in the caul, that's really lucky, isn't it?

Congratulations! It sounds like it worked out perfectly despite full hospitals and Edinburgh traffic.

Oh congratulations, how wonderful and what a lovely name. Enjoy the snuggles.
Me soon, please.
