Another new weaner

Postby cloudcuckoo » 04 Feb 2014, 14:29

Lewis Alexander was born on Sunday lunchtime, weighing in at 4.2kg/ 9lb4oz.

Once we finally rid ourselves of the vomiting bug and got the last of the seemingly endless kids parties, I finally relaxed enough to go into labour. I woke up at 4am, which I'd been doing a lot anyway, bu soon found myself clock watching and timing contractions. I woke DH with my attempts to breathe through them at about 5.30 and went for a shower which didn't help at all. I called triage just before 7am, and by 8am had a midwife with me. We weren't sure at that stage whether he was back to back or not, and an exam didn't help us to know, but I suspect from the double peak contractions that he probably was. The girls were picked up by my folks at about 8.30 and went happily off to make princess crowns, Lego castles and fairy cakes for the day. I moved downstairs, collapsed over a birth ball and had a spectacularly inactive active birth! The midwives were lovely but chaotic, there were all sorts of mix ups over entonox cannisters being left empty, and I couldn't hear anything they were saying to me during the second stage. They say it wasn't a difficult delivery, but I didn't manage the pain as well as I had hoped, have probably put next doors' kids off childbirth for life, and delivered a baby with a short cord tight around his neck. The MW's dealt with it quickly and calmly and all was well, but briefly scary.

Anyway, he is lovely, hungry and currently shouting...

Brilliant news! HUUUUUGE congratulations to you all! I'm sorry you feel that you didn't manage the pain as well, it sounds like you did a cracking job with all sorts of random stuff going on around you.

Welcome Lewis! I'm sure your lovely sisters adore you x

Congratulations! I'm glad it all went OK. These things are very rarely completely the way we imagine them or hope they'll be, but it sounds like you did fantastically. Have a brilliant babymoon :bsmile
