Pregnancy updates - January

So how are we all doing in 2014?

I'm getting better I think. Not so much nausea now, have spd instead though which is a bit of a bugger, I was hoping it wouldn't kick in quite so soon, last time it was about 28 weeks not 18, grrr.

Still very tired but can just about get through a whole day without a nap whilst dh is off work. He goes back on Tuesday though so we'll see what happens then. Still going to bed by 9pm at the latest otherwise I feel nauseous again.

20 week scan is in two weeks, well 12 days now, very excited. I'm trying to tell myself it's just to find out the gender as some friends had bad news at their 20 week scan which will result in two operations before their dd is 6 months old but I'm still a bit worried as well as excited.

Thought I was feeling Popcorn move a few weeks ago but all seems to have gone quiet again, maybe I was just making it up. I don't feel like anything is wrong though so hopefully mothers instinct is correct.

How's everyone else doing? QBM your post about your dd cuddling your bump was so cute. G does that too. If you say "where's the baby?" She pulls my jumper up and strokes my tummy. When you say "do you want to give baby a cuddle?" she lies her head on my tummy. She does the same to the cat lol. No wonder her first word was cat. She also knows how to sign baby now too.

Hope the rest of you are all doing well.

Glad you are feeling better nausea wise KC. That's a shame about the SPD though! Good luck with the scan, it's normal to feel nervous I'm sure. I'm not feeling any movement yet, I thought I did a couple of times but now think I was imagining it!

I'm still feeling very nauseous all the time but not being sick anymore. I'm shattered working full time and looking after DS all night long, and unwell DH as well as all the housework etc. I've got an evening off tonight though, phew, going out for dinner with a friend.

Counting down to going home to NZ for 3 weeks in 4 weeks time! My mum will look after all of us, and we can relax in the sun, as long as we get there. DH has his brain scan the week before so it's not 100% that we can go.

How's everyone else? After the flurry of births in Dec who is next? H

Getting close here. Due on 10th but hoping for earlier. The baby was engaged at last MW check and can definitely feel a lot of pressure in my pelvis. Crumpet is becoming clinger too (if such a thing is possible). She is adamant she has a baby in her tummy too, although so does daddy!

Hope everyone else is doing ok and nausea and spd are under control.

Not quite as close at TC here - ten weeks or so to go but we have a proper wriggler on our hands. She's never still.
I had a month off work in Dec and felt wonderful for it. Yesterday I developed a stinking cold so returned to work ill and miserable. Ugh. I don't see how it is possible to be so sick for so long. Really annoys me to be so pathetically ill.

The puppy also lifts my shirt and strokes my tummy and will quite often 'help' me put cream on my tummy, which is super cute.

Definitely feels as if we're on the countdown to two children now. Can't quite believe it but ten weeks will go in a flash.

Just had my first appointment with my GP today. Usually here people don't get an appointment before 12wks & only 1 scan throughout the whole pregnancy at 20wks unless you're an older mother, has a pre-existing condition or has an immediate family history. If you're not in any of those category, they won't give you a referral to do a 12wks NT & organ scan.

Thought I'd be considered an older mother, but it turns out that in Norway I still wouldn't be in that category until another 4yrs! Also, my MC in September was not considered at all. The GP said that the fact that the pregnancy's gone past 7wks & we have a heartbeat is good enough for her to say that the little dot's doing fine. So no referal for a 12wks scan for me. The GP sent a message to the hospital so they'd contact me with an appointment time for the 20wks scan, then she waved me off & tells me to call either her or a midwife for the next appointment IN MAY! Whoah! (Due date is end of July).

DH is quite anxious, though. So I think we'll have to do at least the 12wks scan privately, if not the whole pregnancy check ups.

We've been watching Ice Age 3, the scene where the mammoth mama is giving birth to the baby mammoth is distressing Tigerle a bit. She said I shouldn't have a baby in my belly as it will cause a tummy ache! Then she said that the baby will cause me tummy ache, then it'll come out & makes a hole on my (her beloved) boobies. When asked why would the baby make that hole on the boobies, she said it's because babies shouldn't come out "down there" where it'll be too close to where poos & pees are coming out from (some weeks ago she asked about the organs & orifices down there, including the middle one)

I'm next (I think) - 8th Jan, but have a history of late babies (+10 and +4) and of not having any signs of being 'close' until I'm actually in labour (neither of the other two have engaged and this one hasn't yet).

I'm enormous, and quite tired but mainly thanks to Christmas as everyone (10!) has been here for a few days - we've got the last lot tomorrow then B & J back to school/nursery on Monday. Bumplet has DEFINITELY run out of space - my stretch marks have stretch marks & I'm down to 2.5 outfits, but feeling much better than I thought I would. Everything is ready, the house is tidy & clean - we just need to get tomorrow done.

On Monday coming I will have 11 weeks to go but I'm suffering a bit with SPD, so much so that DH sat me down yesterday and told me that he thought I should take maternity leave earlier than planned so could rest. I was gobsmacked but secretly pleased as I had been thinking the same thing. Spoke to my manager today and I am now finishing up on the 5th feb rather than the 28th. Im taking annual leave before mat leave officially starts so I have just over 6 weeks before due date.

But boy is this SPD hard! Not used to being so cumbersome and sore!

It's my month too. From memory and the posts above I think I'm third in line. I feel like it could be any time but I'll probably be here in three weeks. House is finally clean. Most of the baby clothes are washed. Birth pool in our possession. Now we just need to wash some towels for the birth and soften them in the dryer and wash some blankets and muslin. I think having the house cleaned has helped me finally feel like I could birth. Midwife appointment this afternoon for a quick check too!

Oops! Forgot it was January and posted in the wrong thread. A quick copy and paste...

I had the whooping cough jab a few weeks ago and although it didn't hurt when she jabbed me my arm was bloody sore for over a week afterwards!!

I had a mw appointment this week and baby is head down and just at the edge of the cervix - very glad as I was sure it was diagonally positioned! It seems to be a bit twisted though. Not quite back to back but turned a bit sideways if that makes sense. Have had a proper think about hospital bag and ordered a pile of stuff online last night so it actually feels a bit more imminent now that Christmas and New Year are out of the way.

E is being super cute. She keeps saying she wants to see baby then lifts up my top and lavished kisses and cuddles on the bump. She sometimes gives it a drink of her water (well, presses the straw against my tummy) and, her favourite thing, presses down with her hand then pulls back quickly shouting, "It kicked me"! Even when it hasn't.

Oops, I also posted on december about my very unglamorous peeling nipples. Why is it always the young male gp with the piercing blue eyes when stripping off required?! Apart from that I feel ok although more pelvic and hip pain is starting to kick in. I am in for a rude awakening on Monday when I have to go to work after 2 weeks lolling around eating mince pies! Only half a term to go though.

Looking forward to January announcements!

What did he say about your nipples, Spanner? (There's a sentence I never thought I'd say!) I have a few slightly awkward nipple/breast questions to ask my midwife this afternoon. Last time I asked her about my vagina on my doorstep. I had forgotten to ask during the appointment so it was a kind of "before you go...I forgot to ask you...it's a vagina question" moment.

January is my month too, and I am both desperate for it to be over and nowhere near ready. Had my home birth booking appointment yesterday, and baby was compliant and head down and slightly engaged when MW checked. But from the sensations in my belly, I'm not convinced that's still true. I just want this over with, I have never been so uncomfortable, exhausted or breathless like I just ran 10k. MW was very surprised that I don't plan on having a pool, and now I am doubting myself, even though I've never wanted to be in water in labour before.

The cot is still in the loft, ditto crib, I need new mattresses, DD2 is still in the wrong bedroom, spare double bed is still in the room she's meant to move into, ditto filing cabinet and filing heap, my room is full of stuff to go in the loft. I am really looking forward to school going back. And as for my plans for a new kitchen....

So that's at least 4 births due this month, how exciting. Hope all of you who are ready to pop aren't too uncomfortable.

I'm thinking we should start sorting out our spare room ready to hold a baby. Think I'm planning on Feb half term for doing the major furniture removal and decorating but ATM it is so full of junk it's about to burst its seams. Dh has been nesting since we got back from parents (well he'd call it tidying in order to unclutter the house in an attempt to unclutter his mind) anyway, all the junk has been chucked into Popcorns room. How organised of us lol.

Don't worry CC, we're only just ready. Christmas was tough and I needed to get through it before I could get ready for baby. You'll be right, it will all come together. Could you get a pool and just not use it? Just in case? We only had a normal bath last time (at home, not hospital) and I had no desire to be in it. I just loved the shower. This time we'll be at home so I got the pool. I might not use it, but we'll have it just in case. I'll probably try it as each birth is different.
