help! super basic blog info for reluctant blogger to be

Postby junglewonderland » 21 Jun 2013, 12:46

I am not the kind of person to start a blog but I really have to so family and friends can stay in the loop about Koala's health stuff. I have a few questions:

1) What is the most user friendly, basic blog site/program thing?

2) how much personal info should I put? Our first names/pseudonyms?

3) should I avoid recognisable photos of us?

4) how often should I update it? Once a week?

5) should I get people who read it need a password or is that a waste of time?

I use WordPress, basic version. Free and easy to use. The upgraded versions I use for clients are horrible and buggy, the free version is fine

2) how much personal info should I put? Our first names/pseudonyms?
Totally your call - I use first names only, but everyone knows it's us. Not sure how I'd feel if it was more sensitive info.

3) should I avoid recognisable photos of us?
Your call again - I use photos of us because without it, the blog would be a bit rubbish (but that's the nature of my blog - it's about going out and doing things, so needs to be illustrated with photos of children doing things!)

4) how often should I update it? Once a week?
Once a week is fine. I aim for 10 posts a month, but haven't got there lately. But if you're not overly concerned about stats it doesn't matter how often you update

5) should I get people who read it need a password or is that a waste of time?
Up to you - not sure if that's available on the free version of WP. Again, it's something I might do for sensitive bloggage

Another vote for freebie Wordpress. I'm pretty sure you can set it to private/personal when you first set up, as I started (but never finished) a family history blog which was going to be for just our extended family.

Post whenever you have something to say! You'll work it out as you go along, it's not that hard :) And hopefully there will be plenty of good news posts you can share with your family. xx

Another vote for we here, no idea what i am doing but I seem to have some followers and people reading from all over... Some tips on the technical stuff might be handy <hopeful look> but not essential.
