Question about blogs and Facebook linking

I'm only just learning about all this stuff, I really have no clue. I put a Facebook 'Like' button on the sidebar of my blog and then finally figured out that I need to put a FB url there, so they're liking my FB page and not the blog. My FB page has the same name but it's of my Etsy shop, with photos of items I list on there. I just put that url for the FB like button on my blog, but the blog isn't about stuff I make or my shop, it's about activities I do with the kids. Soooooo, do I not put a like button for my shop's FB page? It has the same name.....I'm confused. I don't want to look like a shameless self promoter...but what would a blog FB page be? Would it just tell people when you update your blog?

I think it depends if you want to link the shop and your blog. If you want to use the blog as marketing tool, then linking to the shop Facebook page is a good idea. If you want to keep them separate, don't link them. If you want to link to your personal Facebook page, can you do that? Re having a fb page for your blog, you could do.

I think what I'm asking is what is the purpose of the blog and what are your reasons for wanting a fb link?

Katgold combines business and kids on her blog very effectively.

The purpose of the blog is to show activities we do, so if anyone stumbles across it they can get ideas. The FB link just sounded cool! I don't want to look like I'm trying to promote myself, would it look like that if I had a FB like button to my shop? I can't figure out how to put a link to my shop, which made more sense, than a like button to something that isn't already referred to. It's like, 'ok you're on my blog, can you 'like' my shop?

If I don't see something about linking to a shop in my widgets, does that mean I can't?

Does your blog let you update using HTML, or is it a standard interface? Jem put something about linking to MN on a previous post.

Code: Select all
<a href="http://www.mumsnet.com/bloggers-network" rel="nofollow"><img src="http://www.mumsnet.com/images/bloggers_network/MN-blognetwork-104-final.png" width="206" height="104" alt="mumsnet" /></a>

You could use the same code, but replace the bit in quotes after a href= to be your facebook page url and the bit after img src= to use an appropriate picture (like the FB logo). Oh and the bit after alt= to "FaceBook"

HTH!

yes. Essentially that is what it does.

Most etsy sellers who blog will have one FB page for the brand that is fed by likers of the blog and the etsy store.

Sorry Kat, my really tired brain is not understanding what you mean by 'fed by'.......brain overload!

And RtR, how do I get a link for an image? The html worked, my shop link is there, but no image.
