Fun to find this site (via Rachel Eats). My daughter is four now but I did what you call BLW just intuitively (and having traveled lots of places where the squeeze tube feeding style is not the rage) all through her baby-hood. People would always say, "doesn't she choke!" and I would say, "no, she gags." :)

If she's 'taken to it beautifully' then I'd maybe not second-guess things, to be honest. Neither of mine ever dropped a bottle until they were well over a year, but that whole time their food intake went up and up (and occasionally down and up, because they are funny little things). Regarding foods to try, in the UK (where we are) we are told you can give them whatever you want after that magical 6 months mark, but I know that some countries are more cautious, so you're just going to have to decide what you are comfortable with, I'm afraid. If you come from an allergicky family, introducing foods separately is something to consider, maybe leaving a three-day gap between new foods so you can check for a reaction?

Hi
I have started BLW with my 6 month old and she has taken to it beautifully but I am a bit worried about a) over feeding as she has all her bottles and b) eats a substantial amount of the foods I give her (only fruit veg and white fish and chicken for now)I am also confused as to whether I should avoid some foods( gluten , seeds, olive oil etc) or feed her the same as us as suggested.
Any advice as I keep reading so many contradictions

When DS was born our HV team ran a seminar every few months or so. I'd not decided on BLW then but it struck me as an excellent course regardless, because let's face it, it is not only BLW babies that put things in their mouths.

I also sent off for that St John's Ambulance leaflet they were advertising on TV a while back, which was excellent.
